This past weekend we traveled up to Connecticut to capture Lisa and Hugo’s big day. The ceremony and location took place at Branford House, an amazing venue in Groton, CT. It was windy and pouring rain all day, but about 45 minutes before the start of their ceremony the skies cleared up just enough so Lisa and Hugo were able to have the beautiful outdoor ceremony that they planned.
As we’ve said time and time again, when a couple chooses us to be part of their day it always means a lot, but this weekend, it was something that Matron of Honor, Jen, said during her toast that really put things into perspective. She gave a particularly heartfelt and cute toast about some numbers that were important to Hugo and Lisa’s big day, but it was the first number she listed that really struck a chord with us, the number 50.
“Today just isn’t about the wedding, its about a life long journey you are about to embark on. As you sit side by side through this roller coaster of life, remember to scream from the peaks, hold hands through the dips, laugh through the loops, and enjoy every twist and turn. 50 years from today on June 2, 2062 you will not just be celebrating with the 2 of you but hopefully your children and your children’s children.” – Jen Schmidt
In the days, weeks or even months after a wedding, we are sure that the photographs we capture will be looked at and enjoyed, but it is this concept of 50 years down the road that really excites us. In 50 years, memories will be faded, perhaps our names will be forgotten, but the photographs will still stand. On June 2, 2062, Hugo and Lisa, their children, and their children’s children will be celebrating this day. They’ll hold each others’ hands and enjoy the day all over again and knowing that we’ll have played some small part in that day, 50 years from now is an amazing feeling.
Congratulations Hugo and Lisa! Enjoy your honeymoon in the Mediterranean!
