When we received Dominika and Pete’s wedding photography inquiry, we saw the date and thought, “January? Hopefully, they’re prepared for the possibility of snow on their wedding day.” When we sat down with them and discussed their plans and ideas for the day, we learned that they were not only cool with snow on the wedding day, they were hoping for it…
Dominika & Pete met on Halloween while attending a party at Rutgers University, and that first winter of their relationship they spent a lot of time enjoying a mutual interest, snowboarding. The first time Pete introduced Dominika to his friends was on a 4-day snowboarding trip, and subsequently, winter and snow is something they’ve always enjoyed together. Their hopes for snow on their wedding didn’t fall on deaf ears and they got a full on blizzard.
We joined them for their ceremony at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Jersey City, one of the oldest Polish churches in the US. The priest that performed the service was a good friend of Dominika’s parents when they lived in Poland. After the ceremony, we ventured out into the snow for some unplanned photos at Hamilton Park. Dominika, Pete and the entire bridal party were troopers, enjoying the snow and having fun while we grabbed some photographs. They even managed to borrow a sled from one of the kids for a trip down the sled run that the local kids built on the steps.
The reception was held at South Gate Manor in Freehold and went off without a hitch, despite all of the crazy weather going on outside. It really is a testament to Pete and Dominika as a couple to see how many friends and family braved the weather to join them for an amazing day.
Congratulations Pete and Dominika, enjoy your honeymoon (and more snow) in Colorado!
