Last Sunday, we headed to the Asbury Park Boardwalk for Alex and David’s engagement session. We arrived early, as we usually do, to scope out the area and get the creative ideas flowing before the couple arrives. We’ve been to Asbury Park many times over the last 15 years but the city is constantly changing. It is a city that is being reinvented, with new businesses, new people, new life, and new love.
After strolling the boardwalk and surrounding streets, we took a seat at the location where we were supposed to meet David and Alex, watching the assortment of diverse people parade past us on the boardwalk that afternoon. It was an amazing sight to see in a time when so many people are interested in the words that separate us as humans; gay, straight, republican, democrat, wealthy, poor, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, white, black, brown, right, left, liberal, conservative, and so forth. We sat there watching people from all of those classes and labels interacting seamlessly, simply enjoying life, the beach and maybe an ice cream (or tacos) on the boardwalk.
Alex and David routinely visit Asbury Park and the boardwalk was the location of their first date, having dinner at Cubacan Restaurant and Bar. We had a blast getting to know them and learning about the wedding day they have planned. Congratulations on your engagement, Alex and David. We can’t wait to join you on your big day.
