This past weekend, we joined Courtney and Scott for their wedding ceremony at the historic St. Agatha-St. James Church and reception in the Hall of Flags room in Houston Hall at the University of Pennsylvania. Scott is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Courtney attended UPenn for her graduate degree, so the campus and the surrounding area have played a special part in their lives and their relationship. As Courtney was getting her hair and makeup done, she sat in front of the hotel window looking out at the building where she and Scott first met, and where they’d be celebrating their wedding.
St. Agatha-St. James Church, established in 1850, was the first Catholic Parish in Philadelphia, west of the Schuylkill River. When Courtney was attending school at UPenn, she attended services there. Houston Hall was the first student union established at a college in the United States, following the examples set by Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England. The building was built in 1896 and to this day, centers as a focal point for social activity on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
Courtney and Scott’s wedding had so many amazing details that corresponded with their interests, including Scott’s Viking artifact ring, and favors that were origami flowers made from french literature. Scott also made delicious lemon-blueberry pound cakes to serve at their wedding reception. He had made the same cake for Courtney on their first date, and again when he proposed.
Congratulations Courtney & Scott! We hope you enjoyed your Disney honeymoon!
